Babar Azam Retains Pakistan Coach’s Support Despite ODI Tri-Series Struggles

Babar Azam, a Pakistani batsman, has struggled during the most recent tri-series event. Despite gaining starts, he has not converted them into meaningful scores.

His form is a major concern ahead of the last match against Sri Lanka, but batting coach Mike Smith believes the great man will perform.

Babar Azam has only scored 118 runs in four tri-series ODI games, has unable to convert early starts into major scores, and has yet to hit fifty.

Mike Smith, the batting coach, endorses Babar Azam.

The legendary Pakistani batsman scored 29 off 33 balls in his most recent game against Sri Lanka, but despite his intimidating presence, he was trapped LBW and unable to progress.

Although critics have questioned his ability to win games, Smith remains undeterred, believing the former Pakistan ODI captain would eventually score a crucial goal.”

Getting established at the crease is the hardest part of batting in cricket, and Babar is doing that with ease, so it is definitely not a cause for concern,” Smith said.

This would not be a topic of discussion if he had converted one of those strong beginnings into a huge century. We are confident that a huge win is on the horizon, which will be incredible to watch.”

Babar Azam was once considered the finest hitter in ODIs. However, following the 2023 Asia Cup, things began to go bad, as he only scored one ODI century in the previous three years.

His ODI numbers have dramatically deteriorated since 2024; he now averages 37 after hitting 1015 runs in 30 ODIs.

However, his strike rate in the 50-over format has been the primary source of concern. He strikes at a pathetic 75.13 over the same time period (since 2024), and although the other Pakistani batters have improved, he hasn’t.

Furthermore, after determining that he could not play short-pitched balls, the bowlers began using them more regularly to trap him in 2026.
