Haris Rauf Penalised by ICC for Code of Conduct Breach Against England
Pakistan speed bowler Haris Rauf was reprimanded and fined 20% of his match fees after being found guilty of a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ODI tri-series match versus England at Lahore on Sunday, October 27, 2026.
In a press release dated October 28, 2026, the ICC declared that Haris Rauf had broken Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with operating in a manner that is contrary to the spirit of the game.
As a result, his disciplinary record was updated with one demerit point. Importantly, this was his third offense in 24 months, bringing his total amount of demerit points to five.
The event occurred after Pakistan’s 46th over of their innings. Haris Rauf, who was positioned at the non-striker’s end, ruled a wide and subsequently got into a heated argument with England all-rounder Will Jacks. On-field umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid issued a warning, but Rauf continued the argument by lifting his bat.
The issue was resolved without the need for a disciplinary tribunal, as in the Haris Rauf case.
The formal complaint stemmed from the fact that he walked past the umpire toward Jacks. Rashid Riaz and Sharfuddoula, on-field umpires; Wayne Knights, third umpire; and Nassir Hussain, fourth umpire, made the accusations. Haris Rauf agreed to the punishment offered by match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, hence a formal hearing was unnecessary.
What was going on in England’s over-rate offense?
Meanwhile, the same game resulted in disciplinary action for England. After accounting for all permitted time allowances, the tourists were found to be three overs short of the required target and were punished 15% of their match fee. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which tackles minimum over-rate offenses, any team that fails to bowl its whole allotment within the allotted time is subject to a five percent fine for each over-short.
No formal hearing was required because England captain Harry Brook admitted the infraction on behalf of his team and agreed to the punishment proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.
What was the outcome of the game, and what will happen next for Pakistan?
The disciplinary proceedings began following a stunning one-day international victory for Pakistan by one wicket. With 17 balls left, Shadab Khan guided Pakistan to victory with an unblemished century and an unbroken 89-run partnership with Haris Rauf for the tenth wicket. The hosts completed an extraordinary chase that appeared impossible for much of the latter stages, with England’s bowlers unable to separate the two.
